Herding cats.

Sometimes, getting player's schedules to match up can be hazardous to the mind of the DM. Here are some things I've learned over the years, maybe they'll be of use to someone out there in internetland.

1) No one will have the same schedule.

When you first try to get players together for a campaign, prepare to spend a few weeks figuring out who can play which days. Jobs can be erratic at times.

2) Life will say no to your games.

People have children, partners, coworkers, and diseases (see children). These will often drive your game into a rain check, so be prepared. If necessary, you can meet once a month instead of every week or every other.

3) No single player should make or break your campaign.

If Bobby Joe can't play on x day, then he can't play on x day. You may just have to tell him you have to run the game without him then. It's tough, but it's a game after all. He'll find something fun to do on y day when he's free I'm sure.

Hope that helps folks! Have a good one.

Best players ever.

Two of the players in my group are possibly the best players ever. Attractive, smart, female, and nerdy. I may be slightly biased with one of them, as she's my girlfriend.

For Valentine's day, they had their characters write valentines to each other. Cinder (my girlfriend's character) wrote a long and heartfelt note to Voska (best friend's character), which was very heartwarming to read.

Voska replied with this:
